Bio: I started running to become a better me. I was 300 pounds, and that needed to go. I trained so long for my first 5k in October of 2014 at Mavs Run This Town. In January 2015, I was at Too Cold to Hold, where I ran my first 10k. The next day, I joined the Irving Running Club for a group run I'd been running with since. I registered for my first half marathon, The Color Half, and completed it on March 6th, 2015. I HATED it. I told myself I would never run another one again. The joke was on me. I forgot I got an entry into Dallas Rock and Roll 2 weeks later because of snow for Cowtown. I had an amazing time and knocked off 10 minutes of my time. From there, I ran my first full with some of the IRC in March 2016. In March 2017, I ran back-to-back fulls in Little Rock and Georgia to become a Marathon Maniac. That May, I completed my first Ultra Marathon at Hachie. Fast forward to now. Over 165 half marathons, 24 marathons and ultras, and a ton of amazing friendships later, I'm so thankful for what the running community has done for me. To motivate me, inspire me, and encourage me. I give back as much as I can, and one of the ways is by pacing and encouraging, helping, cheering, and motivating other runners on the course. Keep going for your goals, and don't ever give up! See you at the start line!
Favorite pre-race meal: Vietnamese vermicelli with grilled chicken and Gatorade Zero.
One thing I wish I'd known before my first marathon or half marathon: I was obsessed with trying to finish at a certain time in both distances. I didn't enjoy the experience as much as I should. It's your first and an automatic PR! Best advice-you've done the hard part which is the training. The early mornings, after work runs, running in all types of weather, the dedication and effort you put in. The race (half or full) is the easy part. You just got to go out there and run and ENJOY the experience! Don't worry about time and have FUN! :)
